image details

Description
Largely self taught, J.M.W. spent many hours walking in the countryside and sketching from nature. This watercolour is one of his more traditional works, depicting the ruined transept of Tintern Abbey. The arches and columnades are overgrown with trees and plants and broken masonry lies all around.
